I’ve worked at a lot of companies that people would generally regard as having good internal marketing teams and/or good external agencies (companies like Barclaycard, Egg, Saga, Skandia, Lloyds TSB, etc). Virgin Money took a decision to do the vast majority of their design and copy in-house and appointed Archie as the man to lead that team.
I can honestly say that Archie’s qualities in producing exceptional quality copy, but also in leading his team and collaborating with my product guys and with external agencies are the best I’ve come across in my career. We won several marketing awards and Archie was responsible for saving the company literally millions of pounds each year (in 2006 our marketing budget was £42m and Archie had a big part to play in us being able to spend a lot of that on media buying rather than agency costs).
